The Challenge: Protecting High-Performance Glass Façade
This project presented a demanding construction environment. It was built above major underground infrastructure, including rail and tunnel networks.
Careful sequencing and close coordination between trades were essential. Extensive façade works also took place in a busy central London location.
Exposed glass and finished surfaces were at risk from scratches, abrasion, dust and general site damage. The protection needed to be easy to apply and durable for an extended period. It also needed to peel away cleanly without leaving residue or creating extra work.
The Solution: Spray-Applied Temporary Curtain Wall Protection
Spraylat International supplied Protectapeel GlassDefend to protect internal glass and compatible finished surfaces during construction.
The temporary peelable coating provides a barrier against scratches and surface damage. It is also easy to apply across large areas.
GlassDefend provides protection for up to 24 months, making it suitable for the extended programme at Holborn Viaduct. Once no longer required, the coating can be peeled away cleanly without leaving residue. This helps reduce cleaning time and material waste.
Product Used
Protectapeel GlassDefend is a temporary, peelable coating designed to protect surfaces such as glass, aluminium, PVCu, acrylic, stainless steel, painted aluminium, and polished concrete internally for up to 24 months.
the result
The use of Protectapeel delivered key benefits:
- Easy to apply across large surface areas
- Protects against scratches, abrasion and site damage
- Suitable for a wide range of internal surfaces
- Provides durable protection for up to 24 months
- Peels away cleanly without residue
Conclusion
For complex construction projects, finished surfaces need reliable protection without slowing down the programme.
At Holborn Viaduct, Protectapeel GlassDefend provided a durable and easy-to-apply solution. It can also be removed cleanly when protection is no longer required.
The project demonstrates how Protectapeel can help protect valuable surfaces, reduce waste and maintain quality through to handover.
