Project Overview
JGC Engineering used Protectapeel Anti Rust to protect specialist containers destined for offshore wind energy projects. Prepared for transport from Thurso, Scotland, the containers were shipped for use by Siemens in wind farm applications, where they support the transformation of offshore-generated energy into electricity for the national grid. Spraylat’s peelable protective coating provided a reliable, efficient solution for safeguarding these critical assets in demanding marine conditions.
The Challenge
Containers used in offshore wind projects face severe environmental and handling challenges during transport and operation. Exposure to saltwater, marine corrosion, extreme weather, dirt, debris and impact damage can quickly degrade external surfaces and increase maintenance requirements. In addition, the corrugated and irregular profile of the containers makes consistent protection difficult to achieve with conventional methods. JGC Engineering needed a coating solution that could deliver durable temporary protection across complex surfaces while reducing cleaning and maintenance after use.
The Solution
To meet the project requirements, JGC Engineering applied Protectapeel Anti Rust to the external surfaces of the containers using an airless spray system. Applied as a liquid, the coating delivered consistent coverage across corrugated and shaped surfaces, forming a flexible protective barrier against saltwater, weathering, abrasion and contamination. A tinted grey, non-flammable formulation was selected to align with the specific needs of the project. Once protection was no longer required, the coating could be removed cleanly by peeling, eliminating the need for solvents, shot blasting or extensive post-use surface preparation.

- Temporary barrier against flash rusting, saltwater, weathering and abrasion
- Peels away cleanly without residue or solvent use
- Helps reduce labour, maintenance and cleaning requirements
- Supports efficient protection of critical equipment in harsh offshore environments
Product Used
Anti Rust
Protectapeel Anti Rust is a peelable coating designed to protect steel from damage caused by; flash rusting, weld spatter, salt water, corrosion, weathering, abrasion and scratching. This coating CANNOT be used on acrylic surfaces
- Liquid applied by airless spray gun for consistent coverage, Ideal for shaped and curved surfaces, Easy to remove by peeling, leaving the surface residue-free, Up to 24 months of protection with no loss of adhesion ensuring consistent performance, Labour-efficient application and removal, eliminates the need for any solvents, eliminates the need for shot blasting, prevents the need to prepare surfaces prior to painting
Results
- Protected containers throughout transport and offshore use
- Delivered resistance to saltwater, weathering and contamination
- Removed the need for post-use cleaning
- Reduced maintenance time and associated operational costs
Conclusion
For JGC Engineering, Protectapeel Anti Rust provided a practical and high-performance solution for protecting specialist offshore containers used in wind energy applications. By combining spray-applied efficiency, strong corrosion resistance and clean peelable removal, Spraylat helped safeguard valuable equipment while reducing maintenance and cleaning demands. The project demonstrates how innovative temporary protective coatings can improve asset longevity, operational efficiency and sustainability in challenging industrial and marine environments.
