Project Overview

Silverstone Circuit required a practical way to temporarily display AirAsia branding across a 200-metre section of its new concrete pit wall during the British Grand Prix.

Protectapeel signage protective coating was applied to the concrete before the temporary graphics were added, creating a removable barrier between the branding and the new pit wall.

Once the event had finished, the coating could simply be peeled away, taking the temporary decoration with it and revealing the original concrete beneath.

 

The Challenge

The new concrete pit wall represented a high-value finished surface that needed to remain in excellent condition.

Silverstone required the flexibility to transform a substantial section of the pit wall with temporary event branding without permanently painting, staining or marking the concrete.

The solution also needed to be applied efficiently across approximately 200 metres and removed quickly following the event.

The Solution

Protectapeel protective coating was spray-applied directly to the concrete pit wall, creating a temporary removable surface over the original concrete.

Once dry, the AirAsia branding could be applied directly onto the Protectapeel coating rather than the pit wall itself.

Following the British Grand Prix, the decorated coating was simply peeled from the surface. The graphics were removed together with the coating, eliminating the need to remove the branding directly from the concrete.

Product Used

Protectapeel Multi Surface was spray-applied to the concrete pit wall to create a temporary peelable protective layer. Protectapeel RainDefend Top Coat was then applied over the system to provide additional weather resistance, helping the temporary installation withstand outdoor conditions throughout the British Grand Prix.

Once dry, the AirAsia branding could be applied over the coating without permanently marking the new concrete beneath.

After the event, the Protectapeel system and temporary branding could be peeled away, revealing the original concrete surface clean and undamaged.

Conclusion

The Silverstone Circuit project demonstrated how Protectapeel can provide more than conventional temporary surface protection. By creating a removable layer over the new concrete pit wall, Protectapeel allowed large-scale temporary branding to be displayed during one of the UK’s highest-profile motorsport events without permanently changing the original surface.

After the British Grand Prix, the coating and graphics were simply peeled away, leaving the concrete clean and undamaged and providing Silverstone with an efficient solution for temporary event branding.
