The Octagon (based in Birmingham) is the first pure residential octagon high-rise building in the world. Its mesmerising architecture boasts eight equal facades and is set to be the major new landmark for the city.
Whilst there are other octagon-shaped buildings in the world (MLC Centre in Sydney and 383 Madison Avenue in New York) these buildings do not have eight equal sides, four are of equal width and the remaining four are of a different equal width. Making the Octagon in Birmingham truly unique.
“We are still using Protectapeel on the Octagon, we are happy with the product and the service from Spraylat so far, giving us guidance and support on both the product and the equipment.”
Meng Wen, Project Manager McMullen Facades Ltd.
The £110m building commenced construction in 2021 and is due to be completed in 2025. The Octagon will stand at 49 storeys (155m – 3m taller than the BT Tower) and will feature 346 purposed designed build to rent homes.
The exquisite building frame is characterised by large horizontal windows, with each residential unit incorporating a 10.5m wide widow to truly enjoy the views. To make sure residents get the very best, Protectapeel protective coating has been used on 13,000m² of glass so far to protect the iconic façade from scratching, mortar and paint overspray.
