Protectapeel® At The Alexander Stadium For The Commonwealth Games

Our customer Ridgeway Facades used Protectapeel® to protect glass during the build of a brand-new stand at Alexander Stadium for The Commonwealth Games!

The Commonwealth Games were held in Birmingham between 28th July – 8th August. One of the main venues for the Commonwealth Games was the Alexander Stadium, which hosted the opening and closing ceremonies (with Ozzy Osbourne closing the show!) along with track and field events.

Reconstruction of the stadium was approved in 2020. The main grandstand was left untouched however, the majority of the stadium was rebuilt including the curves and the West Stand, which will be the biggest part of the stadium going forward.

Our liquid applied, peelable coating was quickly applied by airless spray drying to form a tough, durable bond that protected the glass from damage during the reconstruction.

When the project was ready for the handover, Protectapeel® was easily removed by hand peeling, revealing clean and undamaged glass!

The Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games covered eleven days of incredible sport, saw 280 medal events and brought millions of people around the world together. We are so incredibly proud to have had our Protectapeel® coating used on such a renowned stadium for this prestigious competition!
